Pigmentation and Scar Treatments in Dubai

Scars, stretch marks, hypopigmented patches, and skin tone irregularities are among the most emotionally significant skin concerns a person can carry. Unlike surface texture or wrinkles, they are often the result of something that happened - surgery, pregnancy, injury, illness - and they can be a persistent, visible reminder of it. The goal of treatment at Vilafortuny is not perfection, but meaningful, lasting improvement - making the skin tell less of a story than it did before.

At Vilafortuny, pigmentation and scar treatments are performed by Paris Faraji - a Master Skin Specialist in Micropigmentation with extensive specialist experience in skin camouflage, areola reconstruction, and scar and stretch mark therapy. Two primary treatment modalities are used: micropigmentation camouflage, which addresses colour discrepancy by depositing matched pigment into the skin; and microneedle aspiration therapy, which stimulates the skin's natural collagen production to improve texture, firmness, and tone from within. In many cases, both are used together as part of a combined treatment plan.

Conditions We Treat

The pigmentation and scar service at Vilafortuny covers a broad range of skin tone and texture concerns - each assessed individually to determine the most appropriate treatment approach or combination.

Vitiligo

A condition in which the immune system attacks melanocytes - the pigment-producing cells - creating depigmented white patches on the skin. Micropigmentation camouflage deposits carefully matched pigment into the vitiligo area to visually blend it with the surrounding skin tone.

Hypopigmentation and white dots

Areas of skin that are lighter than the surrounding tone - whether from idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (small white dots common on the arms and legs from sun exposure), post-inflammatory hypopigmentation, or other causes. Pigment camouflage blends these areas into the surrounding skin.

Hypopigmented scars

Scars that have healed lighter than the surrounding skin - from surgery, burns, injury, or skin procedures. Pigmentation camouflage restores colour to the scar tissue, reducing the contrast between it and the surrounding skin.

Stretch marks

Caused by rapid stretching of the skin - from pregnancy, rapid weight change, or growth. Initially red or purple, they mature to a lighter, silvery-white tone. Both colour and texture can be addressed: microneedle therapy improves texture and stimulates collagen; pigmentation camouflage addresses residual colour discrepancy.

Scars - texture and colour

Atrophic scars (sunken), flat scars, and surgical scars can be improved in both texture and colour through a combination of microneedle therapy (improving the structural quality of the scar tissue) and pigmentation camouflage (reducing colour contrast with surrounding skin).

Areola reconstruction

Micropigmentation to reconstruct or enhance the areola - typically following mastectomy and breast reconstruction, where the natural areola has been removed. A specialised technique using shading and colour depth to create a realistic, three-dimensional areola. Also used to improve areola symmetry, colour, or size where the natural areola is pale or irregular.

The Two Treatment Approaches

Two distinct modalities are used at Vilafortuny for pigmentation and scar concerns - often in combination. The most appropriate approach or sequence is determined at consultation based on the specific condition being treated.

Colour correction Micropigmentation Skin Camouflage

Micropigmentation deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin - exactly as in semi-permanent makeup - but calibrated specifically to match the client's individual skin tone rather than to add cosmetic colour. The pigment is colour-matched at the consultation and deposited into the depigmented or hypopigmented area, creating the visual appearance of an even, consistent skin tone across the treated area.

The result is not a surface application that washes off - the pigment is within the skin layers and persists for one to three years before a refresh is needed. It is the most effective available approach for conditions where the primary concern is colour discrepancy between the treated area and the surrounding skin - vitiligo, hypopigmented scars, white dots, and areola reconstruction.

Each session is typically 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area being treated. Multiple sessions may be needed to build the pigment density required for full visual correction. The number of sessions is estimated at consultation.

Texture and collagen Microneedle Aspiration Therapy

A non-surgical treatment that uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin surface - triggering the body's natural wound-healing response, which includes the production of new collagen and elastin. This progressive collagen stimulation improves the structural quality of scar tissue and stretch marks - gradually making them firmer, smoother, and less visually distinct from the surrounding skin.

The treatment also disrupts the fibrous tissue that holds scars in an indented or irregular position, allowing the skin surface to gradually level and normalise. It is most effective for atrophic (indented) scars, textural irregularities in stretch marks, and areas where the scar tissue has a different surface quality from the surrounding skin. Results are progressive - improvement builds over a course of three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart.

No surgery, no general anaesthesia, and no significant downtime. The skin appears flushed and slightly swollen for 24 to 48 hours after each session - normal activity can resume immediately in most cases.

Areola Reconstruction - A Note on This Procedure

Areola reconstruction through micropigmentation is one of the most meaningful procedures offered at Vilafortuny - and one of the most technically demanding. It is performed primarily for women who have undergone mastectomy and breast reconstruction, where the natural areola has been removed as part of surgery and the reconstructed breast requires a new areola to restore the natural appearance of the breast.

The procedure recreates the areola using carefully layered pigmentation - multiple tones are used to create the three-dimensional, textured appearance of a natural areola, including the subtle colour variation and shading that gives it depth. The result, when performed correctly, is a completely realistic areola that is visually indistinguishable from the natural one in normal lighting conditions.

This procedure is also available for women who wish to improve the appearance of natural areolas that are very pale, asymmetric, or poorly defined - whether from genetics, ageing, or the effects of previous surgery. The consultation for this procedure is given particular care and sensitivity, reflecting the significance of what is being addressed.

Consultation for areola reconstruction

All areola reconstruction consultations at Vilafortuny are private, unhurried, and completely confidential. Paris Faraji approaches this procedure with the care and discretion it warrants. The consultation establishes the most appropriate pigment tones, the design of the areola based on the patient's natural anatomy and preferences, and a realistic expectation of the result and the number of sessions required. No procedure begins until the patient is fully comfortable and confident in the plan.

What to Expect - The Treatment Journey
Micropigmentation camouflage

At the consultation, the area is assessed and the pigment tone is matched to the surrounding skin. The session itself uses a topical numbing cream applied in advance. Pigment is deposited systematically across the treatment area. The result appears darker immediately after and lightens as the skin heals over two to three weeks. Multiple sessions are often needed to build full colour density. Touch-up sessions between one and three years maintain the result.

Microneedle aspiration therapy

The treatment area is cleansed and a topical numbing cream applied before the session begins. The microneedling device is passed systematically across the scar or stretch mark area. The skin appears flushed and slightly swollen for 24 to 48 hours after treatment - this is the healing response being triggered and is a normal and expected part of the process. Improvement is gradual - significant change becomes visible after the second or third session in most cases.

Aftercare
  • Avoid sun exposure to treated areas during the healing period and protect with SPF 50 thereafter - UV exposure significantly affects pigment retention in camouflage treatments and can slow healing after microneedling
  • Do not apply makeup directly over micropigmentation camouflage areas until fully healed - typically two weeks
  • Avoid swimming, saunas, and steam rooms for two weeks after micropigmentation - and for 48 hours after microneedle therapy
  • Keep the treated area moisturised as directed using the provided aftercare product
  • Do not pick or scratch any flaking or healing skin over micropigmentation areas - this removes pigment and can cause scarring
  • Avoid retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and chemical exfoliants near micropigmentation areas during healing and on an ongoing basis - these accelerate pigment fading
  • Attend all follow-up sessions as planned - the treatment plan is progressive and each session builds on the last

Frequently Asked Questions

What is skin pigmentation camouflage and how does it work?

Skin camouflage uses micropigmentation - the same technology as semi-permanent makeup - to deposit pigment into areas of the skin where natural colour has been lost or is uneven, matching it to the surrounding skin tone. It is used to address vitiligo patches, hypopigmented scars, white dots (idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis), and areas of skin that have been left lighter than the surrounding skin following injury or surgery. The pigment is carefully colour-matched to the individual's skin tone and deposited into the upper skin layers, creating the visual appearance of an even, consistent complexion.

Can scars be completely removed with these treatments?

No single treatment removes a scar completely - scar tissue is a permanent structural change in the skin. What treatment can do is significantly reduce the visibility of a scar by improving its colour, texture, and the contrast between it and the surrounding skin. Microneedle aspiration therapy stimulates collagen production and can improve the texture and firmness of scar tissue over a course of treatments. Micropigmentation camouflage addresses colour discrepancy. For some scars, a combination of both approaches produces the most meaningful improvement. Realistic expectations are set at the consultation.

Who is areola pigmentation for?

Areola micropigmentation is primarily used for women who have undergone breast reconstruction following mastectomy - where the natural areola has been removed and the reconstructed breast requires a three-dimensional, natural-looking areola to be recreated through pigmentation. It is also used to improve the appearance of areolas that are pale, irregular in shape, or asymmetric. The result is a realistic, three-dimensionally shaded areola that restores the natural appearance of the breast - and with it, a significant measure of confidence following surgery.

How many sessions of microneedle therapy are needed for stretch marks?

The number of sessions depends on the age of the stretch marks, their depth, colour, and location. Most clients require between three and six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, to see meaningful improvement. Newer stretch marks - which are still red or purple - respond better than mature white or silver stretch marks. The treatment is progressive - improvement builds with each session as new collagen is produced and the skin texture gradually normalises. Your treatment plan is assessed and confirmed at consultation.
