Semi-Permanent Makeup and Microblading in Dubai

Semi-permanent makeup - also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing - deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin to create lasting definition across the face. Brows, lips, and eyeliner can all be enhanced with results that survive water, sweat, and daily life for one to three years before a simple colour boost appointment refreshes them.

At Vilafortuny, semi-permanent makeup is performed by Paris Faraji - a Master Skin Specialist in Micropigmentation with extensive experience in establishing and running specialist aesthetic practices in Dubai. Every treatment begins with a free consultation to assess facial morphology, skin type, and the client's aesthetic goals - because the technique, pigment, and shape that produce a natural result vary significantly from person to person. No two consultations reach the same conclusions. No two treatments should look the same.

Eyebrow Techniques - Which Is Right for You?

Eyebrow micropigmentation is not a single technique - it is a range of approaches, each producing a different result. The right technique depends on your skin type, the existing density of your brows, and the aesthetic you are aiming for. This is assessed at your free consultation before any treatment is recommended.

Most natural Microblading

A manual technique using a fine handheld tool to deposit pigment in individual hair-like strokes, mimicking the appearance of real brow hair. The result is highly realistic - each stroke replicates a natural brow hair, making microbladed brows virtually indistinguishable from real ones in photographs and in person.

Best suited for clients with dry to normal skin who want to fill in sparse areas while maintaining a completely natural, hair-by-hair appearance. Not ideal for very oily skin - excess sebum can cause the hairstrokes to blur over time. Requires more frequent touch-ups than shading. The most precise and delicate of the brow techniques.

Makeup look Ombré Shading

A machine technique that creates a soft, powdered effect - lighter at the front of the brow and gradually darker towards the tail, replicating the look of brow powder or pencil. Suitable for all skin types including oily skin, where microblading performs less predictably.

Produces a more defined, polished appearance than microblading - appropriate for clients who want a more structured brow rather than a completely natural hair-by-hair look. Requires fewer touch-ups, causes less scarring, and performs better as a coverup over previous brow treatments. Results last longer than microblading on most skin types.

Best of both Combination Brows

A hybrid technique that combines microbladed hairstrokes with soft shading - using hairstrokes to create a natural appearance at the front of the brow and shading to add density, depth, and definition towards the arch and tail. Produces the most three-dimensional, fluffy result of all three approaches.

Ideal for clients who want the realism of microblading with the fullness and longevity of shading. The combination adds both texture and density - creating a brow that looks naturally full and well-defined without appearing drawn-on or overly made-up. The most versatile technique for most clients.

Choosing your technique

The technique that produces the best result for you depends on your skin type, the existing condition of your brows, your skin's tendency to retain or reject pigment, and the aesthetic you are aiming for. At Vilafortuny, Paris Faraji assesses all of these at your free consultation and recommends the most appropriate approach before any decision is made. You are under no obligation to proceed after the consultation.

Additional Semi-Permanent Makeup Services

Beyond brow treatments, Vilafortuny offers semi-permanent makeup for the lips and eyes - completing a full-face approach to long-lasting definition.

Lips Lip Blush / Lip Tattoo

Pigment is deposited across the lip surface to enhance definition, improve symmetry, and add a soft flush of colour that replaces the need for daily lip liner and lipstick. The technique involves outlining the lip perimeter and shading the central area with a slightly deeper tone of the same colour - creating dimension and the impression of natural fullness without filler. A colour boost is recommended between six months and one year to maintain vibrancy. Particularly beneficial for clients with pale, uneven, or poorly defined lip borders.

Lips Lip Reduction / Lightening

For clients with naturally very dark or hyperpigmented lips, micropigmentation can be used to lighten and even the lip tone - improving the natural appearance and texture of the lips and making lip colour application more effective. The approach uses carefully selected pigments to neutralise and brighten rather than to add colour.

Eyes Permanent Eyeliner - Upper and Lower

Pigment deposited along the upper and/or lower lash line to create a defined eyeliner effect that is waterproof, smudge-proof, and permanent through sleep, exercise, and swimming. The upper liner enhances the lash line and gives the eye greater definition. The lower liner adds depth and makes the lashes appear thicker and darker. Both can be applied in the same session. A traditional liner look enhances definition without appearing heavy or made-up.

Eyes Lash Enhancement

A very fine deposit of pigment between and at the base of the lashes - creating the appearance of fuller, darker lashes without a visible liner line. More subtle than a traditional eyeliner application - designed to make the lashes look thicker and more defined without any obvious cosmetic treatment visible. Ideal for clients who want definition without the appearance of wearing eyeliner.

What to Expect at Your Appointment
01
Free Consultation

Paris Faraji assesses your facial features, brow bone structure, skin type, and the condition of your natural brows, lips, or lash line. Your aesthetic goals are discussed and the most appropriate technique and pigment colour are recommended. The proposed brow shape is mapped on your face before any procedure is agreed - so you can see and approve the design before anything begins. No obligation to proceed after this appointment.

02
Numbing

A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and left for approximately 30 minutes before any work begins. This significantly reduces discomfort during the procedure. Most clients describe the sensation as light pressure or mild scratching rather than pain. Lip procedures may be slightly more sensitive for some clients - additional topical anaesthetic is applied as needed throughout.

03
Treatment

The agreed technique is applied with precision - each hairstroke, shading pass, or liner line placed deliberately and reviewed throughout. For brow treatments, the session typically takes 90 minutes to two hours. Lip and eyeliner treatments are slightly shorter. The result immediately after the procedure will appear darker and more intense than the healed result - this is normal and expected.

04
Healing and Final Result

The pigment appears darkest immediately after treatment and lightens significantly over the first week as the skin heals. The final healed colour - typically 20 to 40% lighter than immediately after treatment - is visible at three to four weeks. A follow-up touch-up appointment is often included or recommended at six to eight weeks to refine any areas where pigment has not retained evenly and to confirm the final result.

05
Colour Boost

As the pigment naturally fades over time - typically between six months and one year after the original treatment - a colour boost appointment refreshes and deepens the colour. Shorter and less intensive than the original session, a colour boost significantly extends the life of the result and is the most cost-effective way to maintain semi-permanent makeup long-term.

Who Benefits Most
  • Sparse or patchy brows - whether from genetics, overplucking, medical hair loss, or chemotherapy
  • Asymmetric brows - where one brow is significantly different in shape, height, or density from the other
  • Scars through the brows - micropigmentation can reconstruct the brow over scar tissue where hair does not grow
  • Pale or undefined lips - clients with very pale lips or poorly defined borders who spend significant time on lip makeup daily
  • Hyperpigmented or uneven lip tone - clients who want to lighten, even, or correct the natural lip colour
  • Active or water-exposed lifestyles - swimmers, athletes, or those who perspire heavily during exercise
  • Clients with conditions affecting makeup application - tremors, visual impairment, or arthritis that makes daily cosmetic application difficult
  • Men with sparse brows - brow micropigmentation adapted to masculine brow anatomy for a natural, fuller result
Aftercare - The First Two Weeks

How the skin is cared for during the first two weeks significantly affects how well the pigment retains and how clean the final result looks. The following instructions apply across all semi-permanent makeup treatments.

Do
  • Apply the provided aftercare ointment or balm gently to the treated area as directed - this keeps the skin moisturised without interfering with pigment retention
  • Allow any flaking or peeling to occur naturally - do not pick or scratch the treated area
  • Keep the treated area dry for the first seven days as far as possible
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase during the healing period
  • Attend the follow-up touch-up appointment at six to eight weeks
Avoid
  • Swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and heavy exercise that causes significant sweating - for the first two weeks
  • Direct sun exposure to the treated area during the healing period - UV exposure can affect pigment colour retention
  • Applying makeup directly over the treated area until fully healed - typically two weeks
  • Retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and chemical exfoliants near the treated area during healing and ongoing - these accelerate pigment fading
  • Picking, scratching, or rubbing the treated area - this can pull pigment out and cause scarring
The pigment will look different at each stage

Immediately after treatment, the colour will appear significantly darker and more intense than the final healed result. Over the first week, the skin heals and the surface layer flakes away - the colour lightens considerably during this phase. By three to four weeks, the final healed colour is visible. This lighter, softer result is the intended outcome - the immediate post-treatment appearance is not representative of what the brows, lips, or liner will look like long-term. Clients who are aware of this transition find the healing process significantly less alarming.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

Results vary by treatment and skin type. Brows - whether microbladed, shaded, or combination - typically last between one and three years before a colour boost is recommended. Lip tattoo results last one to two years. Eyeliner lasts one to three years. Oily skin and significant sun exposure accelerate fading. A colour boost appointment - shorter and less intensive than the original treatment - refreshes the pigment and extends the result significantly. At Vilafortuny, we recommend a colour boost between six months and one year after the initial treatment for optimal longevity.

Does microblading hurt?

A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure and kept on for approximately 30 minutes before any work begins. Most clients describe the sensation during microblading as mild scratching or a light pressure - not pain. The discomfort level varies between individuals and skin types. Lip procedures may be more sensitive than brow work for some clients. The numbing cream significantly reduces discomfort in all cases.

What is the difference between microblading and ombré shading - which is right for me?

Microblading uses a fine manual tool to deposit pigment in individual hairstrokes, mimicking the appearance of real brow hair. The result is very natural-looking and suits clients who want to enhance sparse areas while keeping a hair-like appearance. Ombré shading uses a stippling technique - lighter at the front, darker towards the tail - to create a soft, powdered makeup effect. It suits all skin types, is more resistant to fading on oily skin, and requires fewer touch-ups. Combination technique uses both hairstrokes and shading for density and definition. The right choice depends on your skin type, the result you want, and the condition of your existing brows - all of which is assessed at your free consultation.

Can semi-permanent makeup be done on men as well as women?

Yes - and at Vilafortuny it is performed on both. Men with sparse or patchy brows, or those who have experienced brow hair loss, frequently benefit from brow micropigmentation. The technique and pigment selection are adjusted for masculine brow anatomy - a flatter, more defined shape rather than the arched profile appropriate for female brows. The result is a natural, fuller-looking brow that requires no daily makeup.
